CWM Leadership Program Highlights

The Center is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing resources and guidance for women in medical training and practice. Our mission is to help women preparing to be or practicing as a physician to build a solid life foundation from which to live out their professional calling.

According to the American Medical Association, nearly 50% of current medical students are women and approximately 25% of practicing physicians are women. In the wake of this demographic shift, women are increasingly asking for guidance as they face the unique challenges of being a female physician. These challenges include avoiding isolation and burnout, integrating family and career priorities, staying true to personal convictions in a confusing world of medical ethics, and learning to understand individual limitations and acknowledge personal need.

At the Center for Women in Medicine, our goal is to increase the attention given to a woman's emotional, spiritual and relational life within the medical training process and profession. The Center is a place where women are encouraged to acknowledge and address their questions and desires instead of hiding or ignoring them in the service of achievement or image. We believe that providing this haven for the hearts of women in medicine will ultimately strengthen the heart of our healthcare system.

RENEW Program launches in 2010
The Center for Women in Medicine is pleased to announce the launch of RENEW as a new outreach program in 2010. RENEW is a program created for the purpose of caring for the staff and leaders of healthcare clinics that serve the poor. By providing a range of "caring for the caregiver" services for the staff and clinic leaders of these clinics, the Center for Women in Medicine aims to increase the sustainability of the services offered to these communities as well as to enhance the long-term well-being of the individual staff members and clinic leaders. House Calls
Can't figure out a way to get away for a life coaching session? The Center for Women in Medicine is now offering a "House Calls" life coaching option where the life coach comes to you. Contact the Center's office at 615-370-8684 for more information.

Tennessee Women in Medicine
If you are a female physician in the middle Tennessee area, you are invited to become a member of Tennessee Women in Medicine (TWM). TWM plans monthly events that provide opportunities for networking and continuing education. For more information, visit their website here.
